Back to Franchisees

Stuart SpencerStuart joined Auditel in 2003 and runs his UK Auditel consultancy practice remotely from Amsterdam. Like many of our franchisees, Stuart’s main motivation for becoming self-employed was to regain control of his work life balance having spent many years as a project manager in large corporate organisations.

Auditel Success Stories

National Motorcycle Museum
National Motorcycle Museum‘Auditel’s professional and thorough approach has steered us through this period of sky-rocketing energy prices and helped ensure that our costs are controlled and managed. We operate a lean head office team so without Stuart’s help we wouldn’t be able to devote time to focusing on this aspect of our finances on a regular basis. However, engaging Auditel means our energy water and communications costs are constantly monitored and reviewed without having to divert resources away from our core business or incur extra costs by increasing staff levels.’

“My wife has a successful career but our children were very young so I was looking for an opportunity that would enable me to work flexibily and take shared responsibility for childcare while still earning a good income.“

He initially considered the possibility of starting a stand-alone business but quickly realised that being part of an established network of consultants with a proven track record of success would make the leap of faith he was about to take less daunting. “There’s no guarantee of success with a franchise but being part of a network of consultants who were already building profitable businesses with the Auditel business proposition seemed less risky than starting a business from scratch. I investigated a couple of franchise opportunities but ultimately Auditel stood out because it’s a service that sells itself to the right ear and I felt comfortable with the values and ethos of the organisation.”

There have been challenges along the way but five years on from his initial decision both Stuart and his Auditel business are thriving.“Last year my turnover was £69,000 but, more importantly, I’ve achieved the work life balance I want. Before, I was commuting an hour each way to work but now I choose my working hours and set meetings to avoid the worst of the traffic. This means I can take the kids to school, go with them to their swimming and tennis lessons and just be part of their lives in a way that would be difficult if I was spending two hours a day in the car. As I’ve said before, there’s no guarantee of success in any business but with Auditel I honestly believe there is limitless opportunity, and with the support of my family and a good network of colleagues I know my efforts will be rewarded. Ultimately profits are more satisfying than wages so its highly unlikely I’d go back to working for somebody else.

Stuart has a wide client base that includes hotels and hospitality businesses, manufacturers, car dealerships, vehicle repair shops, chartered accountants, retailers, printers, caterers and recruitment consultancies.
