WMO Report shows largest annual Greenhouse Gas atmospheric increase since records began

Auditel Responds to Record-Breaking Greenhouse Gas Levels: Empowering UK Businesses to Take Climate Action

The latest Greenhouse Gas Bulletin No. 21 from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has revealed record-breaking levels of carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) in the Earth’s atmosphere during 2024 — a stark reminder of the urgent need for coordinated climate action.

According to the WMO, atmospheric CO₂ concentrations hit 423.9 parts per million, marking the largest annual rise since global records began in 1957. Methane reached 1,942 parts per billion, while nitrous oxide climbed to 338.0 parts per billion. Together, these gases have driven radiative forcing — the warming effect of greenhouse gases — 54% higher than 1990 levels, with CO₂ alone responsible for more than 80% of that increase.

A Call for Business Leadership

As natural carbon sinks such as oceans and forests become less effective, the responsibility for emissions reduction increasingly falls on human systems — particularly business operations. This is where Auditel, the UK’s leading  procurement and carbon solutions network, is making a measurable difference.

“These findings reinforce the scale and urgency of the challenge,” says Nick Tubb, Auditel Commercial Director.  “At Auditel, we support organisations to reduce both costs and carbon — delivering commercial value while helping clients move toward Net Zero with credibility and confidence.  Our Franchise Partner network has evolved rapidly as the world of carbon solutions is complex, and UK organisations are under both financial and legislative pressures.  Our clients usually lack time, knowledge and expertise to know exactly what they need to do, or how to do it, and so leveraging Auditel’s services saves them time as well as money.”

What This Means for UK Businesses and Auditel Franchisees

The World Meteorological Organisation’s latest report confirms that greenhouse gas levels have reached record highs — a clear signal that climate regulation, investor scrutiny, and customer expectations are intensifying. UK businesses are under growing pressure to measure, manage, and reduce emissions as part of their sustainability commitments.

For Auditel franchisees, this represents a major opportunity. As carbon compliance and cost efficiency become boardroom priorities, demand for credible carbon measurement and reduction expertise is expanding rapidly. Auditel’s proven model — combining cost management with certified carbon solutions — positions its franchise network at the heart of the UK’s Net Zero transition.

In short: as climate urgency grows, so does the need for Auditel’s trusted expertise — helping businesses cut costs, cut carbon, and build a more sustainable future.
